Matter of Silence/02
Matter of Silence/01 is the result of a residency at the Glassfactory in Boda Sweden. My aim in this residency was to combine two materials, porcelain and hand-blown glass. As a follow-up to my earlier work on ceramics recycling, I mixed crushed porcelain grains with glass.
I have been working on finding new uses for ceramic waste since 2017. Initially, I did this in combination with new clay, both with casting molds and 3D printing. At the end of 2023, I had the opportunity to combine discarded ceramics with glass.
Matter of silence/01 and 02 are therefore the result of combining two materials, glass and porcelain, that are similar, but not easy to combine. Both are formed at high temperatures, but cooling them together is a challenge.
Having tried the combination in Sweden, I wanted to refine the process at home. In order to do that I collaborated with the famous Master glassblower at Leerdam Glass Museum, Gert Bullee. We made 3 vases by combining glass with porcelain sprinkles.
With Matter of silence/02 I see the vases as vessels of memory and imagination. By combining old, discarded ceramics, that have had a previous ‘life’ with new, handblown glass, the work carries subtle reminders of the past and of human interaction. Rather than offering answers, they invite reflection.
By reshaping familiar forms and narratives, they highlight our relationship to the past and to the future. The vases become both object and story.

These vases will be on show during Belgian Art and Design Fair BADAFF in Ghent from 19 till 22 March 2026.
