Matter of Silence/02

I see these vases as vessels of memory and imagination. By combining old, discarded ceramics, that have had a previous ‘life’ with new, handblown glass, the work carries subtle reminders of the past and of human interaction. Rather than offering answers, they invite reflection.

By reshaping familiar forms and narratives, they highlight our relationship to the past and to the future. The vases become both object and story.

Matter of silence/02 is the result of combining two materials, glass and porcelain. Two materials that are similar, but not easy to combine. Both are formed at high temperatures, but cooling them together is a challenge.

I have been working on finding new uses for ceramic waste since 2017. Initially, I did this in combination with new clay, both with casting molds and 3D printing. At the end of 2023, I had the opportunity in Sweden at The Glassfactory to combine discarded ceramics with glass.

Having tried the combination in Sweden, I wanted to refine the process at home. In order to do that I collaborated with the famous Master glassblower at Leerdam Glass Museum, Gert Bullee. We made 3 vases by combining glass with porcelain sprinkles.
